Job Posting: Part-Time Elective Foods Teacher (Grades 8–10)

Position Type: Micro-Fractional Part-Time Salaried Contract

FTE: Approx. 0.10 FTE (3 Hours per week)

Compensation: Prorated annual salary of $5,500 based on 0.10 FTE.
Note: This is a fixed salaried contract position, not an hourly wage. No additional daily reporting minimums, split-shift premiums, or mileage allowances apply.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly flexible certified teacher to instruct our Elective Foods program. Please note that this is a micro-fractional, isolated schedule consisting of exactly three instructional hours per week, split by an unpaid lunch break on Mondays. The successful candidate must be comfortable commuting to campus for brief blocks, handling extensive kitchen prep and clean-up, and managing distinct student cohorts for a minimal weekly salary.

Schedule Breakdown (Mandatory Hours)

Applicants must be available for these exact, non-negotiable time slots. There is zero flexibility to combine these blocks, and no additional hours or substitute work are guaranteed to supplement this position.

  • Mondays: 11:10 AM – 12:10 PM (Block 3 - Foods Elective) AND 12:55 PM – 1:55 PM (Block 4 - Foods Elective) (Note: Features a mandatory, unpaid 45-minute lunch gap on-site between classes)
  • Tuesdays: No classes.
  • Wednesdays: 11:10 AM – 12:10 PM (Block 3 - Foods Elective)
  • Thursdays: No classes.
  • Fridays: No classes.
  • Contractual Constraint: This schedule is fixed across two non-consecutive days and includes a mandatory midday gap on Mondays. It will not be consolidated. Candidates must be available for these exact intervals. There is zero opportunity for contract expansion or timetable adjustments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, deliver, and assess the Elective Foods curriculum for isolated instructional blocks.
  • Manage rapid culinary classroom transitions, ensuring workstations are safe, clean, and organized within tight timeframes.
  • Maintain accurate grading, tracking, and reporting for distinct class cohorts despite minimal weekly face-to-face contact time.
  • Oversee grocery inventorying, dietary restriction tracking, and clean-up logistics inherent to a cooking elective, compressed into a micro-part-time framework.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Willingness to accept a micro-fractional contract (approx. 7 hours total per week) spread inconveniently across all five instructional days.
  • Extensive experience prepping for multiple grade streams simultaneously.
  • Local residency or an incredibly short commute is highly recommended, as the daily hours are too short to justify a standard commute.
  • Must be a committed, church-attending Christian
  • Must be a BC-certified teacher for the 2026-2027 school year
  • Willing to work collaboratively, planning, teaching, and assessing within a team-based environment
  • Experience in teaching primary and intermediate grades would be an asset
  • Committed to and practicing differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning strategies
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding and use of formative and summative assessments
  • Familiar with Google Workspace (i.e. Google Classroom) and using technology
  • Interest in assisting with extra-curricular programs and involvement in school life would be an asset
  • Able to integrate a biblical worldview into all lessons
  • Demonstrates strong classroom management skills

Candidates interested in applying for this position are invited to please send:

  • A current résumé with contact info of three professional references (one of whom should be the minister/pastor of the Christian church you presently attend)
  • A copy of your current and valid BC Teaching Certificate
  • A statement of your Christian faith/personal testimony.

Please send all required application documents by email to careers@gaglardiacademy.ca
