Welcome to our new and improved Reading Club for the 2025-2026 school year. The Club has the same simple expectations: read for at least 15 minutes a day and take advantage of monthly Bonus Reading Days. This year, we have simplified the tracking process to help even more students achieve their reading goals. Reading Club is a great way to encourage your child’s fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Read on to find out how your child can participate. Note: you can track your child’s progress starting on the first day of school!

Joining the Club and Keeping Track

The Reading Club is open to all students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. To join, simply start tracking your child’s reading. We have switched to a calendar-based recording system this year. Here’s all you have to do:

  1. Print out the calendar page for the current month from the “Reading Club Calendar Forms” link below.
  2. Initial each day your child reads for at least 15 minutes. Your child is welcome – and indeed encouraged – to read for more than 15 minutes every day, but they only earn one “tally” each regular day.
  3. On Bonus Reading Days (one Saturday each month, shaded on the calendar page), indicate the total number of 15-minute blocks your child reads, then initial.
  4. At the end of the month, add up the number of 15-minute blocks your child read and record it in the “Monthly Tally” box.
  5. Email the completed form to Mrs Mac at pauline@gaglardiacademy.ca . Please DO NOT submit the log sheet to your child’s teacher or the office. Keep the original copy at home for your records.

That’s all there is to it!

Recognition

Students will be recognized for reaching various milestones, starting at 100 15-minute reading blocks. All children who record 100 and 200 sessions of reading will be recognized at the last K-6 assembly of the year. Those who record 300 sessions of reading are admitted to the 300 Club and will be celebrated at our annual Academy Awards in June. Wow!

Reading is the key to literacy. The Reading Club is not mandatory, but we encourage every child to participate. Any extra time spent reading at home is felt in the classroom and is greatly appreciated.

If you have any difficulties with the new tracking system, please contact Mrs Mac as soon as possible. Let's give every child a chance to succeed in Reading Club this year.
