DISCRIMINATION PROTECTION POLICY
Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy

Rational:

  • This policy will apply to all faculty, staff and students of Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy.
  • It is the desire of Gaglardi Academy to ensure that all children attending this school experience a learning environment that enables every child to be safe, accepted and respected.
  • That as believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to love one another like Jesus (John 15:12) for we are all masterpieces (Eph 2:10), fearfully and wonderfully made (Psm 139:14).
  • It is understood that students who are respected, accepted and connected tend to be physically and mentally healthier, and perform better academically.
  1. As per Schedule 1 of the Independent School Act, no program at Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy exists (or is proposed) that would promote or foster doctrines of:
    • racial or ethnic superiority or persecution of specific groups of persons.
    • religious intolerance or persecution
    • social change through violent action, or
    • sedition
  2. That all students are connected through relationships created between students, staff, and parents that are part of Phil & Jennie Gaglardi school community.
  3. That Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Academy will continuously develop strategies, ways and means to value students so that they are respected and connected within our school community. This will include the protection of a student's physical safety, social connectedness, inclusiveness as well as protection from all forms of bullying, regardless of their gender, race, culture, religion or sexual orientation while remaining consistent with Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy's statement of faith, community standards, cultural perspectives and Biblical worldview.
  4. The following guidelines are considered in helping to strengthen and promote a healthy school community:
    • Engage students in the decision-making process and activities that build community.
    • Engage parents in the educational program and school life of their children.
    • Promote open communication among faculty and families.
    • Be proactive in connecting students that are experiencing academic or social issues.
    • Communicate expectations, values and norms that support positive interactions within the school community.
    • Acknowledge students by name.
    • Be visible with the school during class transitions, breaks, before and after school.
    • Find ways to acknowledge students for their contributions in the school community including those where improvement comes only in small increments.
