On January 30th, K-7 students showcased their science learning featuring the science themes in the classroom as well as the opportunity for further scientific investigation where students could either research and present an exhibition or perform a scientific investigation.

Students were provided in advance with the judging rubric which showed all the elements needed to enter the judging component of the Expo. All exhibits entered had to include an experiment to show the complete scientific process. The rubric provided students with feedback so that each student can improve upon their entry for next year. (If you're looking to see the rubric, check out the rubric that's at the bottom of this news post.)

It was a very inspiring event with lots of knowledgable participants, one overall winner and ties for 2nd and 3rd places. Exciting! Take a look below at the results.

The winners of the 2020 Science Expo are:

1st place:

  • Tianna (Gr. 6) -- "Pop-O-Rama"

2nd place:

  • Micah (Gr. 6) & Sully (Gr. 6) -- "Electromagnets"
  • Kaya (Gr. 5) -- "Bouncy Balls"

3rd place:

  • Bella (Gr. 5) -- "Do You Really Need To Cut Flower Stems?"
  • Hannah (Gr. 5) -- "Toothpaste Whitening Capabilities"

Congratulations to all of our students on their excellent work and to Mr Manu, who coordinated this year’s science fair and welcomed a new baby to his family!
