On Thursday, May 26, our elementary students participated in the first K-7 Christian School Track Meet held at Vanier track in Courtenay. Schools in attendance were Campbell River Christian, Heritage Christian, and Gaglardi Academy.

This was the first track meet Grades K-2 students participated in and their enthusiasm was so fun to watch. One of the many highlights with this 'new-to-track-meets' crew was Kindergarteners running the 60 m sprint. As we all know, to get ready for a sprint you have to get "On your mark". So the students did, setting up the best they knew...and one by one laid down on their tummies! Then at the signal "Go", they pushed themselves up and started running! Perhaps doing a push-up first will be the new way to run a sprint from now on. You never know! :D

All students competed well and many won ribbons for their placing. But the best thing was the sportsmanship and the comradery: students congratulating their peers on their event placement and happy they won a ribbon. Another plus was the worship music playing over the speakers. How fun it was to see the kids when they heard a song they knew, start singing along and performing the actions that go along with it. So good.

One last highlight was the Grade 7 relay race. Since there were only two teams running, an organizer thought the staff should create a team and run as well. So some staff from each of the schools joined forces to make a team with our very own Mrs Piper and Mr McKague as part of the ensemble. Although the students put in a great effort, the staff team won with Mr McKague crossing the finish line first. Not by too much though!

What a wonderful day! Hopefully, this is the start of more track meets between these schools.
