A few quick reminders before we get into next week's events:

Tuition Appointments: Mrs Taylor has been emailing families to set up tuition appointments for the 2021-2022 school year. Check your inbox (or Spam/Trash) to see if you received yours and then respond with your date availability asap to office@gaglardiacademy.ca or phone 250-339-1200. Please and thank you.

Mask Up: Please remember that while on school property, all non-permanent staff, volunteers, parents, and adults are asked to wear masks. Thanks for your cooperation.

After School: At 3:00 pm, all K-7 students must be out of the facility and at 3:30 pm all grades 8-12 must be out. Students may wait/play outside on the school grounds but not in the gym or wander the halls. Also, please be punctual in picking up your children and if you know you'll be late, phone the office to let us know. Thanks.

Saturday, May 8, is another bonus reading day for all K-7 students who are part of the Reading Club. Get your reading points in! 

Parents of children going into grade 8 next year are invited to a Welcome to Grade 8 parent meeting on Monday, May 10, at 3:00 pm. This meeting will answer any questions you may have about your child's transition to high school. Make sure to attend! 

Our grade 12 missions team has big plans for serving the local community next week from May 11-21. They will be giving help to Selah Campsite, Camp Bob, Gaglardi Academy, and other venues around the Comox Valley. If you could keep the team in your prayers, they would greatly appreciate it.

We're looking forward to hearing about all the great things they are doing in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned on social media platforms as well as the weekly WAAG!

The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is holding their May PAC meeting next week on Tuesday, May 11, at 6:30 pm. The meeting is once again online so that everyone can attend. Hope you will!

Dream Elephant Day is on Wednesday, May 12! Your child will have the opportunity to purchase a Dream Elephant either individually or with their class. Each elephant is $40 and has a Tanzanian child's dream written on a heart and placed inside. We're so looking forward to supporting our grade 12s dream of supporting three students, Moses, Pude and Milka, who want to fulfill their dreams of going to university. With your help, so many dreams have the potential to come true! Woot. 

As you know, students participate in a Science Expo on Wednesday, May 19, so our lovely learning support teacher thought you might like to have a rubric to help your child prepare their exhibit for the big day. She's just so helpful like that. Click the link below to view.

..and not just anybody. We need you! We desperately need volunteers to help with many tasks that are piling up. Even though you are not required this year to complete volunteer hours, our school runs more efficiently with your help. Without volunteers, we must pay for labourers who are currently in short supply and are pricey as well!

• Reaffix a steel grate on the side of the gym
• Torque bolts on the new playground
• Rake mulch around new playground

In case you didn't know, May 3-9 is national Mental Health Week. Take a peek into the world of ADHD from the Outside In. Then switch your mindset to the Inside Out Perspective. You will NEVER AGAIN see ADHD the way you did before!

These resources are excellent for families to listen to together with children 12+ years old.

Information about PAC's newest fundraiser "Gunter Brothers Meats" should have made its way into your child's backpack this week. Hopefully, you've found yours. Participating in this fundraiser is a great way to stock your freezer for the upcoming BBQ season and treat dad on Father’s Day! 

Ordering closes on Tuesday, May 25, with pick up in early June. Thank you for helping PAC make this a successful fundraiser!

A group of enthusiastic grade 2 and 3 girls are joining Mrs Mac on an exploration of the historical novel The Courage of Sarah Noble. The group are simulating the 1707 travels of eight-year-old Sarah as she journeys into the wilderness with her pioneering father to build a new home for their large family. Moving through the school grounds, the girls have spent a “night” in the forest and visited a settlement (at the primary playground). Garbed in their cloaks — a powerful symbol and source of Sarah’s courage — they travelled to a cave (the primary wing exit) and will soon reach Sarah’s new homestead (at the willow tree). From there, the Adventure will continue!

We are having such fun with this novel!
