Welcome to the WAAG!

Welcome to the WAAG!

Hello! Welcome to September which means a new school year! There's a lot of information to cover for this week's WAAG and it's all important, so scroll AND read all the way to the end. You'll be glad you did! :)

BTW, if ever you notice you've stopped receiving emails from the school, please email communications@gaglardiacademy.ca so we can fix the issue and get you back on track receiving all school correspondence.

Are you ready? Let's get started!

Gr. 1-12 First Day of School

Gr. 1-12 First Day of School

Welcome to the first day of school on Tuesday, September 5! Doors open at 8:30 am and classes start at 8:40 am for grades 1-9, and 10:00 am for grades 10-12. Students enter the school as indicated below:

Students in classrooms 1/2 and 2/3, enter through the East door. For K/1, Gr. 3 & 4, enter through the Undercover Area doors. Grades 5-6 students walk around the school (outside) to their assigned portable. Grades 7-12 enter through the Main doors. Please note: All latecomers (those arriving after the 8:40 am (1-9) or 10 am (10-12) start times) must enter through the Main doors and check in at the office.

The school day ends at 2:45 pm for grades 1-6 students, at 3:00 pm for grades 6-9, and at 3:15 pm for grades 10-12. Students who ride the bus must be on their designated bus before 3:05 pm.

Remember: Formal uniform days are all week long (Sep. 5-8).  See you Tuesday! :D

Student & Staff Photos

Student & Staff Photos

It's picture time! Students and staff will have their photos taken on Friday, Sep. 8, with LifeTouch starting at 9:00 am. Students need to wear their formal uniform. Please make sure all uniform pieces are photo-friendly, ie., clean, pressed, and looking sharp! :)

We need two parent volunteers to help with this activity. If you are available all day on Sept 8 and would like to sign up, please contact Mrs Taylor by phone at 250-339-1200 or email at office@gaglardiacademy.ca. This is a great way to start working on getting those volunteer hours completed. Woot.

Speaking of volunteering...

Speaking of volunteering...

As you know, families enrolled at PJGA (that's you!) are required to fulfil 25 volunteer hours by May 31 of the 2023-24 school year. Fortunately, volunteer opportunities abound! We need your help with activities such as photo days, playground supervision, parking/traffic supervision, classroom helpers, library, and more! In order to do so though, you'll need to fill out a volunteer form and get your Criminal Record Check (CRC). And FYI, every year you'll need to redo your CRC.

One more thing. When you volunteer, you'll need to keep track of your hours which is made easier by logging them on the Volunteer Hours Tracking form located on the school website. Every time you log hours, you'll receive an email confirming your entry. Just file these emails, add up the hours periodically, and when you've reached 25 - you're done! Hey, nice job! Click Here to access the form and bookmark it for future visits!

Permission Form Possibilities

Permission Form Possibilities

With the start of a new school year comes the need for permission forms. You know, like if your high school student wants to go off-campus at lunchtime or will be picking up a younger sibling from their class after school. If your child wants to ride their scooter, pogo-stick and skateboard on campus or they take daily medication and you want to give permission for staff to administer it. These are all things that require completed permission forms.

Fortunately, if any of the above applies to you, we have a handy-dandy website where you can fill out these forms online and email, OR download, print, complete and then return to the school office. Easy? You bet! Just click the link below.

Make way for school buses!

Make way for school buses!

As you probably know we have two buses which are helpful in getting out-of-town students to school as well as using on field trips. Please, DO NOT PARK in the area designated space where the buses load and unload. You'll know the area by the placement of large, orange traffic cones at drop-off and pick-up times.

A refresher on our school traffic system

Note the Bus Loading/Unloading Zone!

Hey, fans of traffic systems that work well! It's a new school year and we have an official system in place for safe student drop-off and pick-up, as well as parking. However, in order for the system to run smoothly, everyone needs to follow these super-duper important rules. They are as follows:

The staff parking lot is for staff parking ONLY. Though there may be empty spots, they are reserved for staff that arrive at various times throughout the day. Park on the street, please.

To drop off your child ONLY:
  • Enter the Drop-off & Go Zone by the entrance closest to the sidewalk going to the front door.
  • Use the lane closest to the school called the Drop-off & Go Zone.
  • Go as far up the lane as you are able, stop, drop off and go.
  • If the car ahead of you is still dropping off and you want to leave, you may do so using the left lane. Check for oncoming traffic and pedestrians and then turn left into this Thru Traffic lane.
  • Then you may safely turn left or right onto Noel Ave.

To park and drop off your child ONLY (which you need to do if you have children in grades K-3): ...
